Lifting with Data.
A practical guide to velocity-based training, data, and decisions in the gym.
For coaches, lifters, PTs, and clinicians who use bar speed, or want to. Technology-agnostic; the principles work with any tracker, force plate, or none. Signed first-edition copies ship from Australia in Mid-2026.

The book I wish I’d had ten years ago. Velocity-based training works; the hard part has never been the principle. It’s been finding one place that explains how the math works, what the research says, and how to actually program with it without getting lost in zone charts that don’t generalise. This is that book.
It’s also technology-agnostic and can be applied whether you track bar speed with an app, an LPT or an accelerometer. What matters is what you do with the number once you have it. Perfect for coaches and lifters alike.
Lifters. Coaches. PTs. Clinicians.
Anyone making programming decisions in a gym, regardless of which velocity tracker, force plate, or sensor lives in their kit bag.
-
Lifters
Self-coaching strength athletes who want a real signal in their training, not another opinion thread.
-
Coaches
Working coaches running rosters of athletes — junior development through professional sport — who want objective data in their programming.
-
Personal trainers
PTs who want a defensible framework for prescribing load with general-population clients, not just RPE charts.
-
Clinicians
Physiotherapists and rehab specialists using velocity (or force plates) to gate progressions and quantify return-to-sport readiness.
Three parts. One system.
A complete A5 paperback, structured so coaches and lifters can read it cover-to-cover or jump in at the part they need today.
-
Foundations
The fundamentals: how the tracking technology works, the metrics that matter, building your load–velocity profile, and using real-time feedback to train with more intent.
-
Core concepts
The heart of VBT: 1RM estimation, the velocity zones, training for power, managing proximity to failure, reading exertion and readiness, auto-regulation, tracking progress, and advanced metrics including bar path.
-
Programming & application
Putting it to work: general programming principles, specific sets and programs for different cohorts, and how to progress your velocity training to keep driving strength and power gains.

Frequently asked questions.
-
When does the book ship?
It ships mid to late 2026. This first run is available by pre-order only and will ship from Australia once ready. You’ll get a tracking number for yours once it’s in the mail.
-
Why only 100 copies, and why the price?
I’m self-publishing this first edition myself, as a single run of just 100 signed copies. Short print runs cost more per book than mass-market printing, so the price reflects real small-batch costs. It also buys you a hand-signed first edition with the founders’ pack that won’t be reprinted once it’s gone. Pre-orders will likely take the full run, so if you want one, get in early.
-
Do I have to use Metric to get value out of it?
No. The methods are technology-agnostic and work with any device that measures velocity properly, whether that’s Metric, GymAware, Vitruve, an LPT, or a force plate.
-
Does the book ship internationally?
Yes, books will ship worldwide from Australia. Shipping is calculated at checkout from your destination and is added on top of the book price. Australian and international orders will go out at the same time.
-
Physical copies only?
Yes, the first edition will be a physical copy book sent to you in the post with additional goodies, along with a digital ebook to follow when it’s available.
